The pH question, answered slowly.
Why our cleanser is acidic, and why your soap shouldn’t be.
The resting pH of healthy skin sits around 5.0–5.5. Bar soaps are typically 9–10. A morning that begins at pH 10 ends with a transient ceramide deficiency and an opportunistic microbial shift. The mantle returns to baseline in a few hours, but a few hours, twice a day, is most of a life.
Cleanse 01 is designed to do its work without crossing the mantle’s threshold. Sodium cocoyl glutamate has a critical micelle concentration low enough to lift sebum at pH 5.5. It rinses clean, leaves nothing, and does not change the surface chemistry it found.
